Bullard, Leslie Clarence

 Private Les Bullard was born in Williamstown, Victoria on 9 Jun 1919. He was employed as an iron foundry moulder at Newport when he enlisted on 31 Oct 1939. His recruit training photo strip is shown at left. Les, service number VX3549, was allocated to the 6th Battalion of the 2nd AIF. He served in the Middle East and embarked for Greece on 9 Apr 1941 with Australia's 17th Brigade.

Les was captured in Corinth and was sent to Stalag 18A at Wolfsberg, Austria. He made his escape and on 2 Oct 1944 and made it safely to Allied lines in Italy. Les was repatriated to Australia on 13 Oct 1944. He was discharged from the Army in May 1945 and returned to work as a moulder with his former employer.

Les died on 7 Nov 1978 aged 59. He was buried in the Altona Cemetery.
