Charters, Leonard Richard

Private Leonard 'Len' Charters was a petroleum operator in the Australian Army Ordinance Corps. He enlisted at Caulfield on 20 Apr 1940, VX23860. His POW No. was


Len was born in Essex, England on 8 Feb 1905, so he was 35 when he enlisted. He immigrated to Australia in 1928 and worked as a truck driver in Melbourne. He married Winnie Alice Thompson however she passed away that same year in Drouin, Victoria. There is no indication that he remarried.
Len does not appear on the electoral rolls post-war but appears to have returned to England shortly after repatriation then returning to Australia again in 1949. Led died in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick on about 9 Nov 1962. He was buried at Fawkner Cemetery in 12 Nov 1962. Les was 57.

During his time at Klagenfurt, Len appeared as a cast member with the theatre group.
