Some of the evacuees were landed on Crete and, after fighting with the 17th Brigade Composite Battalion, many of these men were also captured.

Colin was born at Brighton Victoria on 22 Apr 1917. Post-war Colin was a viticulturist in Robinvale, Victoria. In later years he lived in Frankston. He died at Caulfield South on 28 Dec 2012. he was 95.

  1. Colin was my great uncle and somewhat a hero for me, he was gentle, loving and had a good sense of humor. He would write from Stalag about wanting to play tennis with Beverly my Mother. Colin was captured in Greece and escaped for six months being kept by friendly Greek villagers, upon second capture he was taken to Germany and escaped again. After his third capture the Nazis cut off three of his fingers. He was liberated bt Russian forces in 1945. The last time I met with Colin was in 1998 he would never speak of his experiences. As a young boy I would read every ww2 escape book, Colin had many stories and would have made a brilliant documentary.
