Michael P Byrne

My name is Michael Byrne. I live in Geelong, Victoria, Australia. Born Shepparton, Victoria, 1948.

I am retired. My hobby interests are Genealogy, Cycling, Travel, Photography, and Surfing (Stand-up Paddle boarding).

In WW2, my father, Kevin Byrne, was a truck driver in the Australian Army Service Corps. He was captured in Kalamata, Greece on April 29 1941 along with about 8000 other Allied soldiers.  Kevin was interned at Stalag 18A in Wolfsberg, Austria then sent to a Work Camp in Klagenfurt, Austria (10029/GW) where he remained from 12 July 1941 to liberation on 8 May 1945.

I am collecting as much information as I can find on the Klagenfurt POW Camp and its internees and making it publicly available on this blog.

I would be delighted to have the opportunity to amend information in this blog should it be inaccurate or incomplete.

I am also happy to provide high resolution scans of the photographs to family members of other Klagenfurt POWs upon request.

Readers are invited to contact me on mikebyrne02@gmail.com
